My name is Dr Deanne Turner, and I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HCPC, with extensive experience across a wide range of NHS mental health services. My professional background spans both psychology and mental health nursing, having worked in acute and rehabilitation psychiatric inpatient services, community mental health teams, and forensic settings.

I originally trained as a solicitor before changing career path, graduating with a first-class degree in Psychology (2010), followed by an MSc in Health Psychology (2011) and a degree in Mental Health Nursing (2016). I later completed my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, qualifying in May 2022, and have since worked primarily within the NHS.

Much of my clinical work has been with clients who have experienced trauma, often in childhood or through relationships, including sexual, physical, verbal, and psychological abuse. I support individuals to develop understanding of the impact of these experiences and how they can lead to chronic mental health challenges such as severe depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, and substance use. My therapeutic aim is to reduce shame, guilt, and self-blame, and to help people process and recover from their experiences.

In addition to trauma-focused work, I have significant experience supporting individuals with a wide range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, PTSD and Complex PTSD, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. My background as a mental health nurse has also given me valuable experience working with adults and older adults in ward and care home settings, as well as within the prison system.
